SAA Lesbian and Gay Archives Roundtable Scholarship
The Society of American Archivists' Lesbian and Gay Archives Roundtable offers scholarships to attend their annual meeting in the summer. The winners of the awards will be expected to attend the annual meeting of the Lesbian and Gay Archives Roundtable, which is held during the SAA meeting, and to write a short article of their experience at the meeting for the LAGAR newsletter. To qualify, candidates must be a paid employee or a volunteer in an archives whose primary focus is on lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered history; OR be a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered graduate student who has taken at least one graduate level course in archival administration. SOLGA Kenneth W. Payne Student Prize Competition
The American Anthropological Association - Society of Lesbian and Gay Anthropologists (SOLGA) offers this award for a scholarly anthropological paper, written by a student, on a gay or lesbian topic. The prize consists of a cash award and a letter of commendation from the Prize Committee. The deadline is July 15. Deaf Queer Youth Scholarship
The Deaf Queer Resource Center sponsors a $500 scholarship for deaf lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer students who are out about their sexual orientation/identity. Candidates must be currently enrolled in high school or college, be under the age of 25, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. US Citizenship is required. Deaf Queer youth of color are especially encouraged to apply. Selection is based on a written or video essay. The deadline is July 15.

Lee Dubin Scholarship Fund
The Lee Dubin Scholarship is sponsored by COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere) and the Family Pride Coalition (FPC). Three to five $1,000 scholarships are awarded to children of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered parents and guardians who have worked to affect change in the LGBT community and the community at large. LEAGUE at AT&T Foundation
LEAGUE at AT&T Foundation awards scholarships for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender high school seniors who have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and who are actively and substantially involved in community service. Scholarships include the Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship (name used with permission of the Shepard family), named for the Wyoming college student murdered in 1998 for his sexual orientation, and the LEAGUE at AT&T Foundation Scholarship. Malyon-Smith Scholarship Award
The American Psychological Association's Division 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian and Gay Issues) offers this award to support graduate student research into psychological issues relevant to gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, groups or communities. The scholarship amount is up to $1,000. The deadline is February 1, with applications available after November 1. Fund for Lesbian and Gay Scholarships (FLAGS)
This fund provides financial assistance to gay, lesbian and bisexual students involved in the community. The scholarship amount varies and depends on financial need. The deadline is mid-September for the current school year. The fund's Youth Project Scholarship Program also awards grants to tenth and eleventh graders who plan to pursue postsecondary education. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need, academic achievement and school or community involvement. The scholarship amount varies. Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program
The Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program offers several $10,000 scholarships ($5,000 for the first year and $2,500 for the second and third years) to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students pursuing a degree in journalism and communications at an accredited four-year college or university. High school seniors and current undergraduate students are eligible to apply. A GPA of 2.8 or better is required. The award is sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF). NWSA Lesbian Caucus Scholarship
This award provides financial assistance to graduate students doing Master's thesis or Ph.D. dissertation research in lesbian studies. Students do not need to be enrolled in a women's studies program. Preference is given to candidates who are National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) members. The scholarship amount is $500 per year. The deadline is February 15 of each year. The Point Foundation
The Point Foundation is a national, publicly-supported scholarship fund that provides financial support, mentoring and hope to meritorious undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students who are marginalized because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Awards amounts vary based on need, and are renewed annually until the completion of one's degree as long as key expectations are met in the "Contract of Excellence" signed by each Scholar, which includes a requirement to maintain a 3.5 GPA. Past award amounts have ranged from $5,000 to $28,000 per year. The deadline is March 1. Queer Foundation Scholarships
The Queer Foundation sponsors an English essay contest to promote queer studies. Three winners will each receive $1,000 scholarships for study in queer theory or a related field. Roy Scrivner Research Grants
The American Psychological Foundation (APF) sponsors the Roy Scrivner Research Grants for graduate and postdoctoral research concerning the study of lesbian, gay and bisexual family psychology and family therapy. There are two graduate student grants of up to $1,000 each and one postdoctoral grant of up to $10,000. The deadline is November 1. Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund (TSELF)
TSELF awards several scholarships for transgender-identified students in the helping and caring professions, including social services, health care, religious instruction, teaching, and law. An Uncommon Legacy Foundation, Inc.
The Lesbian Leadership Scholarship program, for both undergraduate and graduate students, provides awards for projects that address lesbian social, cultural and educational needs. Consideration will be given to academic performance, honors, personal or financial hardship and especially service to the lesbian/gay community. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have financial need, and demonstrate a commitment or significant contribution to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Zami
Zami offers the Audre Lorde Scholarship and several other $1,000 scholarships to gay and lesbian undergraduate and graduate students of African descent who are making significant contributions to their communities. Zami is Atlanta's premiere organization for lesbians of African descent, and the award's emphasis is on service to the lesbian community. The deadline is May 15. Asian/Pacific Gays & Friends Scholarship (Southern California)

This non-profit organization provides financial assistance to lesbian, gay or bisexual undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in postsecondary institutions in Santa Barbara County. George Choy Memorial Scholarship/Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (Bay Area, California)
The Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) offers this award to provide financial assistance to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Asian and Pacific Islanders. Gill Foundation Scholarship (Colorado)
The Gill Foundation offers scholarships for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students attending Colorado colleges. The scholarships are offered through participating colleges and universities, which must agree to match the foundation's gift. The scholarships are awarded based on past involvement in GLBT issues and other criteria. Currently the award consists of a $2,000 annual scholarship renewable for up to four years. GLSEN Connecticut Chapter (Connecticut)
The Connecticut chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) offers this $500 award to assist a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered student. Bobby Griffith Memorial Scholarship (Contra Costa County, California)
This award provides financial assistance to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth who contribute to the community by improving the environment for GLBT youth. Peter Kaufman Memorial Scholarship (California)

Jonathan Lax Scholarship Fund for Gay Men (Philadelphia, PA)
The Lax Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 by the late entrepreneur and inventor Jonathan R. Lax for the express purpose of encouraging gay men to obtain additional education, aspire to positions in which they contribute to society, be open about their sexual preference, and act as role models for other gay men with similar potential. Tuition scholarships are awarded either in the sum of $20,000 (at least one per year) or $5,000 (multiple awards) and are for men from the five country Philadelphia region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties) attending accredited colleges, graduate or professional schools anywhere, or men attending such schools within the Philadelphia region. PFLAG National GLBT Scholarship Program
The PFLAG National GLBT Scholarship Program was established by Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in 2003 to help support the education of GLBT youth and allies. It includes five awards, one of which is the Eseara Tuaolo Student-Athlete Scholarship established in honor of former NFL defensive tackle Esera Tuaolo. The program was funded by the estate of Palmer B. Carson.

PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation (Houston, Texas).
A spin-off from Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, and the Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals, this foundation supports Houston area students, or students from outside the Houston area who will attend Houston colleges. Awards limited to ages 17-23, based on GLBT identity, academic excellence, financial need and personal interviews. Awards have been a minimum of $2,000 over two years and a maximum of $10,000 over 4 years. A total $107,000 was awarded in 2004. The deadline is May 1. Lesbians for Change (New Mexico)
This award offers assistance to lesbians in New Mexico pursuing higher education. To be eligible, you must be a resident of New Mexico involved politically in the lesbian community. Two scholarships of $500 each are awarded each year. Applications are available in June and scholarships are awarded in August. The Harvey Milk/Tom Homann Gay and Lesbian Student Scholarship (San Diego County, California)
This award was established by the Imperial Court de San Diego to help San Diego area students achieve their goals of vocational, technical or professional careers. To be eligible, you must be a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender resident of San Diego County. The scholarship amount ranges from $250 to $1,000. The deadline is typically at the end of June. This program was established by the Orange County Imperial Court to award scholarships to students attending Orange County (California) colleges. Minnesota GLBT Educational Fund (Minnesota)
This award recognizes outstanding gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth and friends, and supports their continuing education. To be eligible, you must be a resident of Minnesota or a resident from elsewhere who is attending (or planning to attend) a Minnesota educational institution. The award ranges from $1,000 to $2,000. eQuality Scholarship (Northern and Central California)
This award provides financial assistance to graduating high school seniors from northern and central California who have promoted understanding of and equality for the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community. The Pride Foundation (Pacific Northwest)
The Pride Foundation administers 26 distinct funds. To be eligible, you must be a resident of the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska). In addition to general scholarships for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, specific scholarships target gay men of color; students raised in lesbian and gay families; students studying business administration, computer science or political science, and students with career ambitions in the visual arts. The scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. The deadline is in early February (exact date varies from year to year). The Greater Seattle Business Association (Washington State)
This award is offered to undergraduate residents of Washington who demonstrate financial need and the potential to build leadership and promote diversity in the sexual minority community. Scholarships are available to students to attend college, creative or vocational training or other postsecondary education in the state of Washington. The awards are up to $5,000 each. The Joseph Towner Fund for Gay and Lesbian Families (Bay Area, California)
To be eligible, you must be a postsecondary student with at least one gay or lesbian parent residing in the Bay Area (counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Napa, Sonoma and Solano). You must be 25 years old or younger and have a GPA of 2.5 or better. There is a maximum award of $500 per term, $1,000 per academic year, with a lifetime maximum of $4,000. The deadline is June 15. United Teachers Los Angeles Stonewall Scholarship Fund (Los Angeles, California)
The UTLA Gay and Lesbian Issues Committee awards scholarships to deserving high school students to further their educational goals. To be eligible, you must be a student of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) or enrolled in a high school completion program. The awards are not restricted to gay and lesbian students. The White Rose Scholarship is available for Colorado residents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who demonstrate financial need and community involvement. There is a January 15 postmark deadline. First Friday Breakfast Club (Iowa)
The First Friday Breakfast Club in Des Moines, Iowa, offers two scholarships for Iowa residents. The FFBC Scholarship Award offers at least one scholarship of up to $3,000 for a high school senior who has worked to reduce homophobia and increase awareness and tolerance of gay and lesbian issues. The deadline is March 31.

California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC)
The Todd Masters' Scholarship provides financial assistance to a gay student with an Architecture Major. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC). The Allen (Dan) Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance to students demonstrating service to or achievement in, the gay-lesbian community. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at City College of San Francisco (CA) and have a GPA of 2.5 or better. The scholarship amount is up to $600 per year. The deadline is October 31 for the Fall term, April 1 for the Spring term.The BIGALA (Bisexual Gay and Lesbian Alliance) Scholarship provides financial assistance to students demonstrating service to or achievement in, the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender community. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at City College of San Francisco and have a GPA of 3.0 or better. The deadline is early October for the Fall term, early March for the Spring term. The Carolina's Gay & Lesbian Scholarship was established in 2000 to encourage and reward involvement and activism by members of the LGBT community at Duke University. George Washington University
The Semester In Washington program at George Washington University awards the $3,000 Gill Fellowship for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered students to study applied politics. The Semester In Washington program is open to college juniors and seniors and provides a minimum of 6 college credits. Scholarships are available for the spring, summer and fall sessions. Iowa State University
The Scott Rohlf Presidential Leadership Initiative Award is presented annually to one or more students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community at Iowa State University. OSU Gay, Lesbian,Bisexual and Transgender Alumni Society (PFLAG Scholarship)
Ohio State University's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni Society awards six $1,200 undergraduate scholarships to students who have dedicated time and energy to the GLBT community and toward GLBT and HIV/AIDS issues. The scholarships are tenable only at Ohio State University. Candidates should have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (< 45 credit hours) or 2.5 (>= 45 credit hours). Applications must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation. The deadline is in mid-February.

Penn State University
The Barry H. Marshal Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State University who have demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses and who advocate for or contribute to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community. Preference shall be given to students from New York State. The Markowski-Leach Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to gay and lesbian undergraduate and graduate students who help enhance the greater society's perception of gay and lesbian people. To be eligible you must be enrolled as an upper division or graduate student at San Francisco State University, the University of California at Berkeley or Stanford University. You must have a GPA of 2.5 or better. The scholarship amount is $1,250 per year. The deadline is mid-April for the following year. The Wiggsy Sivertsen Scholarship provides financial assistance to gay and lesbian students or students who have provided service to or worked on behalf of gay and lesbian issues. SUNY Rockland Community College (RCC)
The Sheldon Oppenheim Memorial Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender individual to pursue their college education. Candidates must identify as GLBT. They must register as a matriculated student, and register for at least 6 credits in a degree or certificate program at RCC. They should provide an essay describing any obstacles they may have overcome, their educational goals, any community service, or special circumstances. Two letters of recommendation are optional. One to four scholarships ranging from $250-$500 will be awarded each year at the discretion of the Sheldon Oppenheim Scholarship Committee. The deadline is in early June. The University of California LGBT alumni (UCGALA) scholarships are awarded to UC Berkeley students for academic achievement and leadership in campus, community or job activities. Multiple awards are given each year in the amount of $1500. The deadline is generally near the end of September with applications available end of August. The Bruce Wade Memorial Scholarship for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Students provides financial assistance to UCI lesbian, gay and bisexual students who contribute to improving the campus environment for other lesbian, gay and bisexual students. To be eligible for award, you must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at UCI and demonstrate service to the lesbian, gay and bisexual campus community. The award provides two $1,200 scholarships. The deadline is early April for the following academic year. The James J. Harvey Dissertation Fellowship provides financial assistance to graduate students studying male or female homosexuality, including but not limited to sociological, medical, political, historical and legal ramifications or to the study of the life and work of James J. Harvey. To be eligible, you must be a Ph.D. candidate at UCI. The award covers student fees for one quarter, plus a $3,750 stipend. Two to three fellowships are awarded each year. The Jaye Haddad Memorial Fund provides financial assistance to students who have been diagnosed with cancer or AIDS or students with physical disabilities. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at UCSD as an undergraduate student. The scholarship amount varies. The deadline is November 30 for new students and mid-February for continuing students for the following school year.The Michael L. Marx and Donald K. Marshall Scholarship for Gay and Lesbian Students recognizes students who have made a contribution to the gay and lesbian community. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at UCSD at the sophomore, junior, or senior level. The scholarship amount is $1,000 per year. The deadline is mid-February. The Puget Sound LGBT Leadership Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 in order to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community at the University of Puget Sound (including, but not limited to, participation in BGLAD, community organizations, and activist groups). The purpose of the scholarship is to complement successful academic experiences by providing financial support for student leadership and involvement in the LGBT community at Puget Sound.
